Just my thoughts. . .

One of my favorite shows on TV this season is the crime drama ( and I guess SciFi ) 'Forever' starring Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd ( another name as hard to pronounce as Benedict Cumberbatch ).

It is a much better Sherlock Holmes type show than say 'Elementary' if you are looking for more of a traditional portrayal of a Holmes like character.

And as a nod to the Canon, the producers of the show had Ioan's character spend some time in the 'Diogenes Club'.
Now the date of 1812 makes it a little before Mycroft's time, but if you follow the premise of the story, they could have met.

And let's not forget that Ioan and Benedict shared the screen in 'Amazing Grace' just a few years ago.

  1. Funny how when a show based on Holmes but featuring a character not called Holmes we find all the connections and similarities to the Canon and tout the positive; when a show is call "Sherlock Holmes" it's the changes to our perceptions to the Canon that strikes us the most. I like Gruffudd as an actor but as a "Sherlock Homes" Henry Morgan is a bit too nice and cuddly. "Forever" is a pleasant show but in truth not as good as "Elementary".

    1. I really like your line; "Funny how when a show based on Holmes but featuring a character not called Holmes we find all the connections and similarities to the Canon and tout the positive; when a show is call "Sherlock Holmes" it's the changes to our perceptions to the Canon that strikes us the most." ( I may use it sometime.)
As far as being not as good as Elementary, I am not so sure about. I think anything with the SCIFI label will have it's short comings, but sometimes I like nice and cuddly.

  2. I have seen Ioan Gruffudd only in the Fantastic Four movies and he did not really impress in those.

Still, I will check out this show.

    B2B.

    1. I think you would like him in Hornblower and Amazing Grace.

  3. I love 'Forever' and think it wins the Holmes-likeness competition over 'Elementary' exactly because it doesn't pretend to be SH. Only they did the Diogenes Club wrong: everybody TALKED! 8-O

Hi, how are you, James C.? Haven't seen you anywhere in quite a while.
