What if the posting of this image, a tease for sure, meant the special that is still a year away, would be a period Blue Carbuncle. Or at least a period Holmes.
Who of us would not love to see Benedict and Martin in a Victorian production from the Canon.
Just allow me to wish.
I am curious to see Benedict Cumberbatch portray a Victorian Holmes. Let us see how this shapes up.
ReplyDeleteB2B.
I think if played straight it would be fantastic.
DeleteOne of the strengths, and also a weakness, of "Sherlock" has been its long-hiatus/short-seasons. It gives rabid fans plenty of time to speculate, but the secrecy around production means that the producers have have to have controlled leaks to give the fans something to speculate about without giving too much away. An in-period "Sherlock"? I have a hard time seeing Moffat and Gatiss playing the Victorian period straight. "Sherlock" has always been a "wink-wink" look-how-clever-we-are show (part of its charm for some), which would go over to camp set in the 1890s. I will certainly watch it when it airs in America, but I refuse to speculate. I'm glad that Brad sees with this bit of hype what some of us have been seeing for quite awhile, that playful teasing can turn to torment awfully quickly.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have much hope, just wishful 'hoping'. I think he would have been a fantastic period Holmes. I also think he would not have been as popular right now if he had been a period Holmes.
DeleteMy feelings as well on both comments--fantastic period Holmes, but not the phenomenon "Sherlock" is now.
