Episode #15 - A Giant Gun, Filled with Drugs - a review.

For me, another very good episode, one of my favorites.
'Holmes' is reunited with his old drug dealer/friend to help find the mans daughter. Along the way 'Holmes' has to deal with once again being so close to his addiction.

John Hannah plays Rhys, the ex-dealer. He has come looking for Holmes to help him find his daughter, who has been kidnapped to force Rhys to give up money he stole from his suppliers. Money he no longer has.
Lots of great acting in this episode.

Hannah who I loved in 'The Mummy' plays against that casting to play a likable drug dealer, but not without his dark side.

Millers 'Holmes' shows a great range of emotion in battling his demons and questioning his friendship with Rhys.

Lucy Liu's 'Watson' is at once protective and unflappable as Holmes' steadfast companion.

There was even time for some humor.

Canonical references (which I am sure I missed a couple of);

References to cases we only hear about but never actually get to see (read). We see this several times in the Canon, and it has made for many pastiches and books.

References to 'Holmes' monographs and his suggestion that Watson never reads them.
With a specific mention of his knowledge of different types of tobacco ash.

Using clues (in this case, on the finger) and his knowledge of his surroundings to deduce a location.

Mention of cases we do know about, in this case 'The Blue Carbuncle'. (Oh I hope they do that one some day).

'Holmes' temptation to revert back to his addictions when bored.

'Watson's' constant worry about him returning to his crutch.

'Watson' being very protective of 'Holmes'.

Some great examples of his deductive prowess when he notices things like the DEA agents tattoo's all being recent. The type of shoes the 'painters' are wearing.

Of course, spotting the ash and the ink stain at the crime scene. Along with the fact that the victim was a jogger.

'Holmes' appreciating 'Watson's' resolve and tenacity.

Noticeably absent was any sign of hookers. (What's up with that?)

Although, at least at the source I check, viewership numbers are not in yet, but I bet once again they will be pretty high.

Once again I have to give this one at least:

  1. The acting definitely was good. The next episode looks quite campy.

    B2B.
